What Meets the Eye

While we were in Park City we were interviewed for the Edmonton Journal by Ashley Elaine York. She wrote a very nice piece about Stranger Things, which she chose as her favorite film of Slamdance 2011. She was particularly excited by the cinematography, describing the camera as a character in its own right.

Actually, Ashley Elaine York wasn’t the only person to pick up on strong cinematic storytelling Eleanor achieved with the camera. Filmmaker Magazine also mentioned the film’s beauty and in Variety’s review of Stranger Things, John Anderson pointed out “Burke’s intuitive, expressive camera work.”

To seal the deal, the great cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond (who shot The Deer Hunter, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and McCabe and Mrs Miller among others) was at one of our Slamdance screenings. We were honored when he talked to us afterwards and spoke highly of the cinematography.

Luckily Eleanor is a humble gal. She ought to be unbearable by now.

I am so jealous! Wow! The opening shot of Close Encounters of the Third Kind is one of my all time favorites. Too cool 🙂
